Its too hot for a fire

Image
Ok I know its too hot for a fire but before you know it the fall will be here and cooler evenings are always a good opportunity for a fire outside along with a few adult beverages and some smores. This year we will be christening in my newest craft project.  It's the end off a 500 gallon propane tank and its sitting on an old tractor wheel. It Still needs a couple of coats of stove paint but tell me what you think.  This fire pit should last a lifetime  Year the wife and I were married  Should look great once a fire is placed in the pit Would love to try it out but at 90 degrees plus today we'll have to wait. Considering doing this as a hobby and a little side business.  Do you think they would sell?

I'm RC and I'm addicted to paradise

Image
The first step is being able to admit your addiction.  "I'm RC and I'm addicted to paradise". While I'll be the first to admit paradise was not as good to me this year as she has been in years past.  She is still of course paradise and who can resist her sweet temptation. I don't think we will make the trip again during a holiday weekend.  The crowds were much larger than we are use to and well I guess I'm spoiled and I like having Paradise all to my self.  I can now imagine what it must be like during peak season when paradise has many suitors.  She can't please them all and hey she doesn't have to she's paradise. My addiction with her began many years ago and there is no 12 step program that can release you from the grips of paradise.  You'll accept whatever she throws at you because you just want to be with her.  It does't matter if her seas are rough or her sunsets are few as long as you can be with her its all you long for.

Beach Angel turns 10

So today is Lexi birthday!  For her birthday she was given the present of a perfect beach morning. Calmest water we've seen all week.  The sky was filled with sunshine and the ocean was full of  sailboats, paddle boaters, Parasails, pelicans, people and even a manatee.  It was just like when you have a bad round of golf somewhere during the round you hit a great shot and its enough to make you want to come back and do it again.  Today was that good shot! Around 1:00 the sky opened up and we made a hasty retreat to the house but it was ok because Lexi dinner of choice for her birthday was where else but Cheeburger Cheeburger.  This little 60# is going to tackle the monster burger.  She determined to get her picture on the wall.  I don't classify Lexi as a big eater but to all of our astonishment she polished that thing off.  She challenged Don to take on the one pounder and he didn't disappoint.  So early dinner and back to the house to begin packing things up. We did

Let Freedom Ring

Well as you can guess by the title of the post it is 4th of July.  Now close your eyes and concentrate real hard.  Can you hear it?  The sound of the surf.  I'm posting today from the beach.  Looks like today will be the best beach day so far. Carol and I started the day off at Amy's Over Easy for some breakfast.  The crowds were already gathering for the annual 4th of July parade.  Carol says "B is before P" so beach it is.  We finished breakfast about five minutes before the parade was about to begin. We headed back to Captiva.  Besides if all the people are at the parade the beach will be all to ourselves right?  WRONG!  The beach was packed I have never been here and seen so many people.  Doesn't matter though its still a beautiful day. Today we even got to set up the beach canopy so I knew we would be in for a longer visit.  Its funny watching all the people come to the beach.  You have the minimalist you know you've seen her the women that comes dow

Some Beach

Posting a little later today sitting out on the lania listening to the thunder roll and having a glass of Liquid Lubrication. Strawberry/Plum wine 2008.  (It was a very good year).   As you regulars on the forum know I enjoy making homemade wine.  This one was actually made by a friend of mine.  His name is Gil.  He's the one that introduced me to the art of winemaking.  Strawberry Plum 2008   Gil is best described as one of those country boys that can survive. He's does it all from making his own deer sausage to turning various fruits into liquid lubrication he makes some good stuff!  The first time I saw him making deer sausage I was a bit perplexed he was using the camper on the back of his old Ford pickup as a smoker.  I thought the darn truck was on fire when I first saw it.  Some of the best deer sausage I ever ate. Before I get to todays agenda I should back up a bit to dinner last night.  The wife and I headed out to Thistle Lodge.  It has become a regular dinn

Beach Art

Image
So it looks like we are in for some rough waters this week.  I bet the shell seekers are loving this! Its got to be sending some treasures this way.  Most of our beach time so far has been at high tide so its not the best time for shell searching. So the beach angels and I tried our hand at a little Beach art today.  Meet Katy (momma turtle's name) and Lacey (Baby turtle's name) Beach Art 2013 Lexi, Taylor and PaPa   We are seeing a lot of rain so far this week.  After we completed the beach art the beach angels were ready to head back to the house and the pool.  No doubt as long as the water stays this rough their favorite spot this week will be at the pool.  Captiva Cutie has a nice Lanai (I think that's the correct spelling, back home we call it a screen porch!)  it connects to the pool deck its a great place to  catch the breeze and chill.  Also my place to sit and work on the blog.   View from the Lania A.K.A. screen porch   Front yard or Jungle

Paradise Found!

Image
Ok we made it.  Got into Fort Meyers around 1:15 yesterday.  Stopped at Bahama Breeze for  lunch and a spicy Mango Mojito (Got to start putting this vacation in the right frame of mind). After lunch a quick stop at Wally World to pick up some things we'll need for the week then its windows down and proceed with our search for Paradise. It doesn't take long and you can smell it,  the salt air from the ocean paradise must be close.  Reach into your pocket and get out the best spent $6 bucks of the week.   Our home base this week is once again on Laika Lane.  Captiva Cutie is colorful beach themed ground level cottage.   It takes the beach angels about 10 minutes to get on swimming suits and head for the pool.  The first 5 minutes was spent checking out the lizard that was awaiting our arrival on the front porch.     We broke from our normal routine and hit the pool for awhile.     Then we were off to the beach to see if there was going to be any Kodak mo
