Heading to Paradise Ocean breezes, Frozen refreshments, Time to Exhale

Time is rapidly approaching for our annual adventures to paradise, Captiva and Sanibel Florida.  While nothing beats this place for true relaxation there's also a considerable amount of enjoyment in the days building up to the departure.  You can feel the excitement build daily as everyone starts getting things ready for the 1,200 mile excursion. While the drive is not my favorite part of the vacation the end result is worth the time in the car.

It was a warm and sunny day when Joe and I jumped into his Dad's car.  We weren't going far, just a couple of miles down the road.  The car was a beauty. It was white with a Black vinyl top.  Back in those days, the Mopars were as long as a limo and had plenty of horsepower.  This was the perfect car for the day. But on this day, our limo had other plans.  We pulled onto Telegraph Road and got as far as the 270 overpass when the Plymouth died. SH**t Doesn't Always Roll Downhill

So I really didn't think I would write much in the blog during this trip.  Normally, the Beach Angels and other guests supply the comic relief while they are here, and while Rachelle and Beach Angel "Skylar" are here for a few days, it has been realtively quiet, and we have just been chillin. You know, during my working career, I spent time as a line worker,  A mechanic, a Supervisor, a  Middle Manager, and a Packaging Engineer. I was also a Director f or Lean Manufacturing.  During those years, I learned a lot about how the progression of things worked. We were always aware of the fact that SH**t rolls down hill and you had to always be ready to adapt and overcome the adversities of said Sh**t that were sometimes made by upper-level management that really had no idea what was happening on the shop floor. Spending some time with my side Chick

 I'm going to spend some time with my side chick this week.  It's been well over a year since I've seen her. Last time was only for a few short hours.  She was recovering from a tragic event that happen in September 2022.  It left her bruised and battered and even forced some of her friends to leave her permanently. I've been in this relationship for many years now. I first met her in the 90s. I wasn't sure if we would hit it off. That first time, she burned the top of my feet so bad that they were swollen.  I couldn't wear shoes, barely walk, and spent the ride home with my feet propped up on a cooler in the car while my wife drove. Yes, my wife, See she loves my side chick too!  As a matter of fact, the whole family and lots of others love her as well.  People have told me that when they are with her, they are in their Happy Place! Exploration beyond the beach

So the theme this year is about new experiences and first for us while here on Captiva/Sanibel. Our house this year sits on the water up the channel from Blind Pass.  This is a first for us usually we are trying to get closer to the gulf but the island is narrow down by Blind Pass and it is a pretty short walk to the beach. The house is not much more than 30 foot off the water and has a dock which has led to many new discoveries for the Beach Angels.  I put together a Scavenger Hunt for the Angels this year.  They are getting older and I wanted to open their eyes to the wonderful world of nature that surrounds this island. The Scavenger hunt has about forty items.  They either need to collect or spot the items while here this week.  Lexi  and I spent quality time this evening sitting on the dock and watching nature in all its splendor.  From Rainbows, Osprey eating a fish and a alligator we got a little of everything tonight.  Best part was just s...

Ticket to paradise

$6 for a ticket to paradise.  I'll take it. Sanibel Causeway Price for admission $6 We're here!  Great trip down we actually arrived earlier than we normally would and we even made a stop in Sarasota to pick up a new water camera.  On day one we stopped in Valdosta Ga.  We got a text from our daughter she was surprised we made it there as quickly as we did then she politely ask us to let her out of the trunk!  I know she really wanted to come but a new job this year meant no trip for her and the Beach Angels.  I'm sure we will torture her all week long with text and pictures. We'll  put this new camera through the paces this week and hope that it holds up better than the Fujifilm one  did. It bit the dust while we were vacationing down here a couple years ago.  I really wanted to get a Panasonic Lumix T5 but it was impossible to find it without ordering it on-line and we waited too long and didn't think we could get it delivered...

Soccer PaPa

At the end of February, my life has changed.  No more 9 to 5 for me, every day is a vacation as retirement has officially kicked in!  My blog has been mainly devoted to our experiences on some small islands in southwest Florida, Sanibel and Captiva Island. While I hope to still visit and share more experiences from this magical place, I will be sharing other trips and experiences as we continue to navigate along Life's Highway.   Before, it seemed like I only wrote about the annual trip to that special place. I'm RC and I'm addicted to paradise

The first step is being able to admit your addiction.  "I'm RC and I'm addicted to paradise". While I'll be the first to admit paradise was not as good to me this year as she has been in years past.  She is still of course paradise and who can resist her sweet temptation. I don't think we will make the trip again during a holiday weekend.  The crowds were much larger than we are use to and well I guess I'm spoiled and I like having Paradise all to my self.  I can now imagine what it must be like during peak season when paradise has many suitors.  She can't please them all and hey she doesn't have to she's paradise. My addiction with her began many years ago and there is no 12 step program that can release you from the grips of paradise.  You'll accept whatever she throws at you because you just want to be with her.  It does't matter if her seas are rough or her sunsets are few as long as you can be with her its all you long for.  ...

The Sequel-Curtain Call

Sorry if I have been non-existent for the last couple of days.  The Beach Angels traded in their halos for a set of mouse ears.  Yep we left Paradise on Sadurday morning around 7:30.  The Angels thought we were taking mommy AKA The Handler and Chris AKA The Roadie to the airport in Orlando. About 5 miles from WDW.  The Handler gave the beach angel a note.  About being good and that mommy was going to Disney World.  The Beach Angel thought Mommy was going alone without her.  It was hilarious. But really Disney with long sweaty lines and a lot of people who don't speak English and doing it for three days.  WHAT WAS I THINKING???? Anyway back to paradise for just a few more minutes.  Then I got to go to breakfast and find Goofy.  Friday was really a repeat of alot of the days this year, Beach.  We probably spent more time this year than we have in years past.  I kept finding my self humming "Some Beach" by Blake Shelton several ...

  Another week of "BS" in the books. We all deal with "BS" in some form or fashion. It might be with health, financial, relationships, work, or politics. You name it, there are a multitude of things out there that from time to time can become a total load of Crap.  If we choose to let it, it will consume us and become the overwhelming way we look at life. I'm as guilty as most about letting things get in the way of my thinking from time to time, but that's not who I strive to be.  I want to find that flower that has grown out of that load of crap.  Look for the lemonade from the lemons, find the light in the darkness. That is why my theme for this week's blog focused on "BS".  The good kind, like B each and S unsets the things that make you smile. Help Wanted in Paradise!

  Help Wanted As we made our way down here it's been really eye opening to see how Covid has impacted our economy.  We normally stop in Paducah KY at an IHOP just off I-24 for a quick breakfast.  The restaurant  is usually open at 5:00 a.m.  This year they were not open yet as we went through. Reason, not enough staff.  It seems like everywhere we stopped along the way there were always "Help Wanted" signs. When we got into Sanibel on Saturday we decided we were going to eat healthy this week so we stopped at Cheeburger, Cheeburger for lunch. By the way I did have a veggie burger! Sanibel is back open at full capacity but half of the tables at Cheeburger were not seating customers.  Reason, not enough staff.  Also noticed numerous empty shops where the business owners apparently went out of business.  Sad to see. One thing is for sure if you want to work there are jobs out there.  I'm counting down the months to retirement but maybe I'll...
